Yes, it’s such a shame about Zackary Quinto and Ellen Degeneres isn’t it?
And yes there’s Zachary Quinto and Ellen Degeneres, but they’d amassed considerable fame before coming out of the closet. Interesting to note how Ellen’s sitcom reached the height of its popularity before she came out, and then the show’s ratings dropped until the show was canceled. She came back out on top with her talk show, good for her, but it doesn’t change the fact that she didn’t do another acting job until 2001, a show that also flopped. Zachary came out in a time where it’s ever so sliiiiiightly easier on celebrities, but right now it’s still too early to see how it will affect his career, seeing as he’s still preoccupied with Star Trek II and American Horror Story.

Apparently he said some things in interviews (around four years ago) that were well-intended, but ultimately extremely insensitive about the struggles queer people go through. He said that there are a lot of gay people or ‘poofters’ in showbusiness, especially Hollywood and they should just come out of the closet because ‘nobody cares that they’re gay, I don’t care that they’re gay’ or ‘someone has to stand up and be counted’.
It’s very… no straight person has the right to tell anyone when to come out of the closet, especially when what he said is not only wrong, but very ignorant. Coming out of the closet for someone in showbusiness usually means the end of their career, if not ostracisation from Hollywood altogether.
hey! question: i LOVE your a softer world/sherlock mashup (Why regret? why regret, why regret. because yesterday and yesterday and yesterday...) (tumblr sucks and won't let me link it...) but i was just wondering if that that text was from an original ASW or something else? it's just lovely.
Hi! First, thank you very much for the compliment, that particular mashup is a favourite of mine =D As for the quote, it’s actually an original by me. All of my A Softer World art can be differentiated between ‘fanart by’ or ‘remixed by’ in the bottom right hand corner. If it’s remix then it’s from the original ASW. If it’s fanart then it’s either original quote (by me) or lyrics from a song (in which case the artist will be credited in the tags). You might have also seen a variation of this quote in one of my kink meme fills here. Thanks for the ask! =DDDDD
Yesterday afternoon, I got my hands on the pilot script for Elementary, so consider this a Tumblr exclusive, I guess. I will not be sharing my source or the PDFs I was sent, so please don’t make an effort in asking how and why; — I’ll just side-eye the fuck out of you then ask,…
I don’t… understand. OP found Elementary boring and ill-thought out… but still likes it more than Sherlock? Then what’s with all the Sherlock graphic reblogs? The CBS show’s not even out yet but it’s preferred over BBC Sherlock? That’s fine because that’s just personal preference but if you ‘loathe’ Sherlock then why… why all the reblogs, why the icon of Benedict why the url name why why WHY?
“Depression is humiliating. It turns intelligent, kind people into zombies who can’t wash a dish or change their socks. It affects the ability to think clearly, to feel anything, to ascribe value to your children, your lifelong passions, your relative good fortune. It scoops out your normal healthy ability to cope with bad days and bad news, and replaces it with an unrecognizable sludge that finds no pleasure, no delight, no point in anything outside of bed. You alienate your friends because you can’t comport yourself socially, you risk your job because you can’t concentrate, you live in moderate squalor because you have no energy to stand up, let alone take out the garbage. You become pathetic and you know it. And you have no capacity to stop the downward plunge. You have no perspective, no emotional reserves, no faith that it will get better. So you feel guilty and ashamed of your inability to deal with life like a regular human, which exacerbates the depression and the isolation. If you’ve never been depressed, thank your lucky stars and back off the folks who take a pill so they can make eye contact with the grocery store cashier. No one on earth would choose the nightmare of depression over an averagely turbulent normal life.
It’s not an incapacity to cope with day to day living in the modern world. It’s an incapacity to function. At all. If you and your loved ones have been spared, every blessing to you. If depression has taken root in you or your loved ones, every blessing to you, too. No one chooses it. No one deserves it. It runs in families, it ruins families. You cannot imagine what it takes to feign normalcy, to show up to work, to make a dentist appointment, to pay bills, to walk your dog, to return library books on time, to keep enough toilet paper on hand, when you are exerting most of your capacity on trying not to kill yourself. Depression is real. Just because you’ve never had it doesn’t make it imaginary. Compassion is also real. And a depressed person may cling desperately to it until they are out of the woods and they may remember your compassion for the rest of their lives as a force greater than their depression. Have a heart. Judge not lest ye be judged.”—(via porygons)
